HP - TERI honours Chiranjiv Bharati School, Sushant Lok
HP - TERI honours Chiranjiv Bharati School, Sushant Lok

Chiranjiv Bharati School, Sushant Lok and its students have once again proved their mettle by winning a grant of Rs. 1 lac from HP and TERI  for their dedicated work in bringing about the awareness regarding E-Waste under  project IMPACTS.

The school was awarded by the chief minister of Delhi Smt. Shiela Dikshit on 21st April at the National Science Centre as a part of TERI’s Earth Day celebrations. Dr. R.K. Pachauri Director General of TERI was also present on the occasion.

The school took up the challenge thrown by HP & TERI for e- waste management and with their diligent organization & planning managed to bring about E-Waste awareness not only amongst its students but also to their parents, neighbours & the community.

This was the only school nationwide which collaborated with the organized sector for an e waste recycling - Earth Sense Recyclers Pvt. Ltd.

The programme has opened new doors to its students by opening their eyes to the most  upcoming career  in waste management which they realized after their visit to the recycling & processing sites at Manesar & Hyderabad .

School has taken the awareness programme beyond its four walls through parent’s volunteers & RWA’s of the colony.

The students of CBS,SL managed to convince people not to sell their e-waste to the local ‘kabadiwalas’ for a petty  amount, as they do not dismantle  & recycle e waste in an eco friendly manner and that is why cases such as cobalt 60 in Mayapuri, Delhi, are happening.

School has setup an e waste collection centre in its school premises and plans to put up more collection bins in other surrounding colonies with the help of RWA’s, through its parent volunteers.

The school appeals to all those who wish to be a part of this programme for protection of our environment & send their  e- waste for proper recycling, to contact us at principalsl@chiranjivbharati .com.

Chiranjivians are proud to bring up the future Gen XYZ who are socially responsible citizens not only for their own country but who think about the future of the world.

Director of CBS,SL  Mrs. Mahrukh  Singh, congratulated the students and staff for their commendable work in this field and encouraged them to continue their  crusade towards this cause.  Keep up the good work Nature rangers of CBS,SL and kudos to you for many more awards to come !

Richa Rocks!!! Our Brand Ambassador for Project SEARCH

Richa Rocks!!! Our Brand Ambassador for Project SEARCH

AMBASSADOR’s FIELD VISIT TO VAPI, GUJARAT

(16th – 18th February)

Keeping environment sustainability in mind TERI in collaboration with Tetra Pak India has initiated this project SEARCH to create awareness activities on waste recycling amongst students, teachers and the larger school community. In the first phase project SEARCH has reached out to 30 schools each in Delhi/NCR and Bangalore through workshops, film screenings, role plays, simulation exercises and field visits. My visit to Vapi was the second phase of this project. The six awared and conservative ambassadors were selected for this visit to Vapi for three days from 16th – 18th February. Vapi is an industrial town and a municipality in Valsad district in Gujarat’s golden corridor – a 400 km belt of industrial town. It is situated on the Banes of Daman Ganga River which flows through Maharashtra & Gujarat states as well as Daman & Diu. This trip to Vapi was an interactive and a really interesting one. The recycling plant is named as Daman Ganga group owned by Mr. Tushar shah. By visiting the recycling plant, I really came to know about the amazing statistics and recycling of Tetra pak cartons. About Daman Ganga group, I would like to tell you that it is a company engaged in recycling and packaging products with a focus on environment friendly technologies. Recently it has developed a unique facility to recycle “difficult to recycle laminates” such as they recycle the plastic and aluminium of the Tetra Pak for making fuel and oil. Due to the amazing Bio friendly techniques such as no use of chemicals, detergents and only using heat and pressure for recycling tetra pak saves 1, 43, 69, 250 no. of trees annually and 46 billion litres of water is saved annually in Vapi. This group also co-ordinates and educates NGO’s on effective methods of collection, handling and transporting the used Tetra pak cartons for recycling. After visiting this plant, I came to know that every carton is recycled 100%. The recycled paper is used for making many usable items such as books, tissues, tissues rolls, paper bags and many other natural and unbleached items. Overall my experience at Vapi was really nice. I enjoyed visiting the recycling plant and the best part was Learning’ as one should always learn from travelling. For your information, I would like to tell you that this project will end by April’ 2010, but we should not stop our efforts. We should continuously make efforts to increase recycling trees, oxygen and to make this world a better place to live and also to create awareness about Tetra pak as it is good for us and good for the earth.
